Is Nassau a Good Medicare Supplement Company?
Review Nassau Medicare Supplement plans, standardized benefits, financial strength, premiums and Pennsylvania availability before choosing your coverage.
Is Nassau a good Medicare Supplement company? Nassau can be a reasonable choice for someone who qualifies for one of its Medicare Supplement plans and receives a competitive premium. Its Medicare Supplement policies are issued by Nassau Life Insurance Company of Kansas, a subsidiary of Nassau Financial Group.
Nassau offers standardized Medicare Supplement coverage, including Plan G, Plan N and Plan F where available. The medical benefits are determined by the selected plan letter, not by the insurance company’s name.
Whether Nassau is the right company for you depends on its current premium, available discounts, financial strength, underwriting requirements and how its price compares with other companies offering the same standardized plan.
Quick Answer: Is Nassau a Good Medicare Supplement Company?
Nassau can be a good Medicare Supplement company when its premium is competitive and you are comfortable with its financial-strength rating. Its standardized Plan G, Plan N and Plan F benefits work the same as the corresponding standardized plans offered by other insurance companies.
Nassau should be compared with several other Medicare Supplement companies before enrolling. A lower or higher premium does not change the standardized medical benefits associated with the plan letter.

What Medicare Supplement Plans Does Nassau Offer?
Nassau offers several standardized Medicare Supplement plans. Pennsylvania policy forms include Plans A, B, F, G and N. Exact availability can depend on the applicant’s Medicare eligibility date and other enrollment requirements.
The plans most frequently compared are:
Nassau Plan G
Plan G covers most Medicare-approved out-of-pocket costs after the annual Medicare Part B deductible.
Nassau Plan N
Plan N may offer a lower premium in exchange for limited office and emergency-room copays.
Nassau Plan F
Plan F includes the Medicare Part B deductible but is limited to people eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
Nassau Plans A and B
Plans A and B provide fewer standardized benefits than Plans F, G and N and may appeal to applicants seeking different coverage levels.
Nassau provides additional plan information through its official Medicare Supplement overview .
Is Nassau Plan G Good Coverage?
Nassau Plan G provides the same standardized Plan G medical benefits as Plan G from another insurance company.
Plan G generally covers:
- The Medicare Part A hospital deductible
- Part A hospital coinsurance
- Part B coinsurance after the annual Part B deductible
- Skilled-nursing facility coinsurance
- Qualifying Medicare Part B excess charges
- Limited foreign-travel emergency benefits
- Additional hospital coverage after Medicare benefits are exhausted
Nassau Plan G does not cover the annual Medicare Part B deductible. You remain responsible for that deductible before Plan G begins paying qualifying Part B coinsurance.

Is Nassau Plan N a Good Value?
Nassau Plan N may be worth considering when its premium provides meaningful savings compared with Plan G or another company’s Plan N.
Plan N generally includes:
- Coverage of the Medicare Part A hospital deductible
- Part A hospital coinsurance
- Skilled-nursing facility coinsurance
- Limited foreign-travel emergency coverage
- Coverage of most Part B coinsurance after the deductible
With Plan N, you may pay up to $20 for certain office visits and up to $50 for an emergency-room visit that does not result in inpatient admission. Plan N does not cover Medicare Part B excess charges.
Pennsylvania prohibits healthcare practitioners from billing Medicare beneficiaries above the Medicare-approved amount for covered services received in Pennsylvania. As a result, excess charges generally are not a practical concern for Medicare-covered care received within the state.

Who Can Purchase Nassau Plan F?
Nassau Plan F is generally available only to people who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
Plan F provides the same standardized benefits as Plan G but also covers the annual Medicare Part B deductible. People who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, generally cannot purchase Plan F.
Nassau specifically promotes competitive Plan F pricing. However, the premium should be compared with Plan G and other available Plan F policies before enrolling.
Paying a substantially higher premium merely to have the insurance company reimburse the Part B deductible may not provide the best overall value.
What Does Nassau’s B++ Rating Mean?
AM Best currently assigns a B++ financial-strength rating with a stable outlook to Nassau Life Insurance Company of Kansas. Nassau reports that B++ is the fifth-highest of AM Best’s 13 financial-strength rating levels.
A B++ rating is categorized by AM Best as “Good.” It indicates that the rating agency believes the company has a good ability to meet its ongoing insurance obligations.
The rating is not the highest available from AM Best. Some applicants prefer an insurer with a higher financial-strength rating, while others may consider Nassau when its premium provides sufficient savings.
Financial Strength Is One Part of the Comparison
A company’s rating should be considered alongside its premium, standardized benefits, discounts, underwriting requirements and long-term value. A rating does not determine the medical benefits provided by Plan G, Plan N or Plan F.
Does Nassau Guarantee Its Medicare Supplement Rate?
Nassau states that it guarantees the policy price for the first 12 months. This means the applicant’s initial policy premium generally will not increase during the first policy year because of a company rate adjustment.
The 12-month guarantee does not mean the premium will remain unchanged permanently. Rates can change after the initial guarantee period, subject to applicable insurance regulations and policy terms.
When comparing companies, consider the initial rate, first-year guarantee, available discounts and what the premium may look like over time.
Can You Use Any Doctor With Nassau?
A standard Nassau Medicare Supplement policy does not use a proprietary doctor or hospital network.
You can generally use any healthcare provider nationwide who accepts Original Medicare. The provider does not need a separate contract with Nassau.
This nationwide provider access is a feature of standard Medicare Supplement coverage—not an exclusive Nassau benefit. Other standard Medicare Supplement companies provide the same flexibility.
How Much Does Nassau Medicare Supplement Cost?
There is no single Nassau Medicare Supplement premium. Your rate can depend on:
- Your age
- Your Pennsylvania ZIP code
- The Medicare Supplement plan you select
- Tobacco status
- Household-discount eligibility
- Your requested effective date
- Available payment discounts
- Medical underwriting when applicable
Two applicants may receive different Nassau premiums based on their individual information. Rates can also differ between Pennsylvania counties and rating areas.
Medicare Supplement benefits are standardized, but company premiums are not. Our guide explains why Medicare Supplement rates differ between companies .
What Should You Compare Before Choosing Nassau?
Before selecting Nassau or another Medicare Supplement company, compare:
- The exact monthly premium
- The same standardized plan letter
- Available household discounts
- Financial-strength ratings
- First-year rate guarantees
- Application or policy fees
- Underwriting requirements
- Customer-service considerations
- Long-term rate history when available
A recognizable company name does not provide additional standardized medical benefits. The goal is to find a financially acceptable company offering the appropriate plan at a competitive premium.
The Bottom Line: Is Nassau a Good Medicare Supplement Company?
Is Nassau a good Medicare Supplement company? Nassau can be a suitable choice when its premium is competitive, the applicant qualifies and its B++ financial-strength rating meets the applicant’s preferences.
Nassau offers standardized Medicare Supplement options, including Plans G, N and F. Its policies provide the same standardized medical benefits as corresponding plans from other companies.
Nassau’s first-year rate guarantee may also appeal to applicants who want protection from a company rate adjustment during the initial 12 months.
Nassau is not automatically the best company for everyone. Compare its current premium, financial strength and enrollment requirements with other insurers before applying.
